The Pikey Peak Trek a popular trekking destination in the lower Solukhumbu region. Unlike treks in the Everest Region, it is less crowed, yet offers stunning views of many high mountains, including Mt. Everest (8,848.86 meters), Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 meters), and Mt. Makalu (8,485 meters), which are respectively the first, third, fourth, and fifth highest mountains in the world. The trek also offers deep insight into the cultural heritage of the Sherpa people and the natural beauty of lower Solukhumbu. Another advantage of the trek is that it is relatively easier and shorter than many of the popular treks in Nepal, making it accessible for those with limited time for trek. Graded as “moderate” trek, it is suitable for individuals with reasonable fitness levels. The trek typically takes a minimum of 7 days, beginning and ending in Kathmandu, though it can be extended.
Choosing the proper equipment for trekking in Nepal is crucial for a safe and enjoyable experience. Most trekking destinations in Nepal are remote, with few accessible markets. Even where markets exist, prices tend to be high. Therefore, it is essential to prepare all necessary equipment before starting your trek. Kathmandu, particularly the Thamel area, is the ideal place to acquire equipment if you haven’t brought it from your home country. Alternatively, Pokhara offers equipment at similar prices to Kathmandu.
Below is a list of general equipment. Not all items may be necessary depending on your destination. Consult your travel consultant or guide if assistance in selecting the appropriate equipment.
*Note: FYI, you can also rent a sleeping bag and a down jacket in Kathmandu. The cost varies from $2 to $3 per day for each item, depending on the quality.
We had a wonderful experience whilst in Nepal with Osprey Adventure Our guides: Shange Ngima & Lhakpa were very resourceful, helpful and spoke English. Whilst in Kathmandu they also arranged tours of interest.
We trekked on The Pikey Peak Trail from
Dhap to Junbesi (which was approx. 50 kilometres) one of the many highlights of our 6 person trek was setting off at 5 am from our base camp to catch the sunrise on Pikey Peak in a covering of new snow.
Having just arrived home in the uk from trekking pikey peak with friends I could not recomend osprey adventures and Ngima enough. From meeting us at katmandu to organizing accommodation, travel, food, walking and everything inbetween; things ran smoothly and professionally.
Having someone with inside knowledge of the Himalayas and Nepal in general along with perfect English made this guided tour more insightful, relaxing and informative all round.
Many thanks Ngima you couldn’t have done anything more for us, a perfect trek in an inspiring country. Good luck with the business 🙏 Jonny
Superb, attentive, knowledgeable guides and incredible efficiency on the routes and roads. You couldn’t ask for better in Nepal. Huge thanks to to Shange & co
